Federal Judge Amy Coney Barrett to Deliver 2020 Hillsdale College Commencement Address

Hillsdale, Mich. — Hillsdale College is pleased to welcome the Honorable Amy Coney Barrett, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, to deliver the commencement address for the College’s 168th spring commencement ceremony.

“Judge Barrett has embodied and upheld the constitutional principles of justice and freedom throughout her career,” said Christopher VanOrman, Hillsdale College provost. “We are honored to welcome her back to campus for this important event.”

Judge Barrett was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit on November 2, 2017. She was previously a member of the faculty at Notre Dame Law School, where she continues to teach. Her scholarly work on constitutional law, federal courts, and statutory interpretation has been published in the Columbia Law Review and the Texas Law Review. Judge Barrett received her bachelor’s degree from Rhodes College and her J.D. from the Notre Dame Law School. Following law school, she clerked for Associate Justice Antonin Scalia of the U.S. Supreme Court, where she was appointed to serve on the Advisory Committee for the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure. In recent years, Judge Barrett has garnered attention as a potential nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Hillsdale College’s spring commencement will be held on May 9, 2020. Admission to the event is by ticket only for graduates and their families, employees, and friends of the College.
