Sean J. Conway

Position: Associate Counsel

Organization: Senate Judiciary Committee

Born and raised on Chicago’s northwest side, Sean grew up in a close-knit, blue-collar enclave of Irish and Italian Catholic city workers. As the son of a fireman and the grandson of a detective, Sean was raised with a deep respect for public service and a strong belief in law and order.

After graduating from Northwestern University, Sean ventured abroad – first to Wuhan, China, where he spent six months teaching English and studying Mandarin, and then to Colombia, his mother’s birthplace, where he taught World History in a school nestled among coffee farms.

At the University of Chicago Law School, Sean was active in student leadership. He served as president of the St. Thomas More Society and held officer roles in both the Federalist Society and the Edmund Burke Society. He is a Blackstone Legal Fellow.

Outside of work, Sean served as an Assistant Scoutmaster, leading camping trips and teaching scouts essential survival skills. His hobbies include playing folk guitar and sailing on Lake Michigan. A proud firearm owner, Sean also spends time at the range honing his handgun skills.

Next fall, Sean will be leaving the office to clerk for Judge Drew Tipton (STX) and Judge Barbara Lagoa (CA-11).
