WHIP-Alumni Mentor Program, Closing Event- Spring 2024

Download Press Release

Last week, the Washington-Hillsdale Internship Program (WHIP) wrapped up its WHIP-Alumni Mentor Program with the final closing event on Friday evening.

In fall 2022, the WHIP-Alumni Mentor Program was established to better integrate the WHIP undergraduates with DC-based Hillsdale alumni to connect the students with professionals who have similar career interests and to provide a more customized professional development experience for the students. This spring marks the fourth successful semester of the mentor program.

Over the course of their semester in DC, students meet with their mentors at least three times, including an introductory breakfast and a special closing event hosted by the Hillsdale in D.C. The pairs discuss professional topics ranging from resumes and cover letters, to the job application process, and life after college. Many students also have the chance to visit their mentor’s offices and attend networking events around the city with them.

The program has been successful both professionally and personally; alumni have the opportunity to give back to their alma mater, and students can learn from those who have gone before them who are already acclimated in the professional world.

Most students and alumni have continued to maintain their relationships beyond the WHIP semester too. If you’re an alumnus of Hillsdale, especially if you participated in WHIP, consider joining the program to provide guidance and support to the next generation of WHIP students!
